Classic furniture is that which has been used for decades or centuries, and is still found in homes. Designers and homeowners have several styles to choose from. - Queen Anne is a classic furniture style that dates back to the early 1700s. Started by English settlers in early America, the style features light weight and clean lines, with an emphasis on curves. Pieces have a unique carved shell on them, curved legs called cabrioles and feet. It's usually made from walnut, cherry or maple wood. It is most often found in tables, chairs and desks. It looks at home in older dwellings that have a more traditional style.
- Shaker furniture was started by the Shaker religious group in America in the late 1700s. Its manufacture was meant to help in the spiritual development of the group. The Shaker design aesthetic was about simplicity, and it showed through the clean-lined pieces. Shaker furniture is known to be designed in an efficient and meticulous manner, and does not feature any added designs or adornments. The style is widely available in furniture stores.
- The elegant, sophisticated Victorian style became popular in the late 19th century. It was elaborate in design, with claw feet and leaf trimmings, and was meant to express the stylishness of the era. Victorian furniture included everything from decorative and upholstered sofas to intricate wooden headboards. It is now considered antique, and is highly sought at antique stores and auctions.
