  A garden spade is used for digging small holes in the soil. For bigger holes, you would want to use a shovel. Use a garden spade when planting bulbs, small flowers, seeds or smaller plants.

Plant Containers

  Containers are made of a variety of materials including plastic, wood and clay. Some containers are more desirable for certain plants. Clay containers are porous and allow water to evaporate more quickly than plastic containers. A plant needing arid conditions is suited for a clay container instead of a plastic container.

  Garden hoes are used for weeding as well as sweeping materials around the soil's surface of the soil. They help evenly distribute soil and mulch. Some hoes are fitted with a small pitchfork on the opposite side for digging and loosening up soil.
  
  

Rake

  There are two basic types of rakes: garden rake and leaf rake. A leaf rake is usually broader and wider with thinner, flexible tines that grab leaves and plant debris. The garden rake is stiffer and narrower and is used to loosen soil and rake heavier materials such as rocks.
