Soil Requirements for Growing Bromeliad
- 1). Grow bromeliads according to your growing region. These plants require temperatures over 50 degrees Fahrenheit at all times, and should only grow outside in USDA Growing Zones 10 and 11. If you live in a colder area, pot your bromeliads for indoor growing.
- 2). Fill a 6-inch clay pot 3/4 full of potting soil mixed with bark or wood chips for planting. This mixture gives bromeliads the right amount of drainage and air circulation. Use heavy pots to balance the heavy bromeliad plants, and always use pots with drainage holes.
- 3). Mix one part quick-draining potting soil with one part organic compost for outdoor plantings. Turn 3 inches of this mixture into the top 3 inches of any planting site to give bromeliads support, drainage and air circulation.
