How to Paint on Clear Glass Vases

    • 1). Wash the vase by hand or clean it in the dishwasher. It should be free of dust, fingerprints or any other visible marks before you start painting. Dry the vase completely.

    • 2). Draw the outlines of your pattern with a glass outliner pen. The area inside of the outlines is the space that will hold the colored glass paint. Be creative and paint freehand in any shape or direction you choose, but make sure that each shape is closed, with unbroken lines.

    • 3). Wait for at least 20 minutes until the outline paint dries completely.

    • 4). Hold the vase horizontally so that the surface you plan to paint first is facing up.

    • 5). Drip a few drops of transparent glass paint into one outlined shape. Tilt the vase slightly, if necessary, so that the paint floods and fills the shape.

    • 6). Continue placing drops of color within the outlined shapes until each shape on the first side of the vase is filled. Hold the vase on its side until the paint is dry.

    • 7). Burst any bubbles that have formed by pricking them with a thin needle or the tip of a paintbrush.

    • 8). Turn the vase so that the adjacent area is facing up and continue dripping paint into each outlined section.

    • 9). Painting additional layers will give depth to the painting. Allow the paint to fully dry between coats.

Allow the entire vase to completely set and dry before using it.
