Repair Procedures for a Run-Flat Tire
- Run-Flat Certified Retailers repair Michelin Zero Pressure and Bridgestone Run-Flat tires using a patch-plug combination. Certified retailers have the equipment and specific training to properly mount and demount Run-Flat tires and to inspect Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems devices. Conventional mounting equipment may damage Run-Flat tires and an improper repair is not only unsafe, it will also void the tire's warranty. Run-Flat tires allow for only one tire repair before the tire is sent to be recycled.
- Remove the tire from the vehicle and deflate. On the inside of the tire, clean the puncture area with a rubber cleaner, sand and clean the area again. Prep a two-inch section around the puncture hole.
- Apply a super-adhesive to the puncture area and insert the stem of the patch-plug from the inside of the tire. Push the stem of the patch-plug until it protrudes to the outside of the tire. The cap of the patch-plug should be on the inside of the tire. Cut off any excess stem-length level to the tire's tread depth.
