How to Build a Keyboard Stand in Woodworking
- 1). Cut four pieces of two-by-two to 33.75 inches in length for the legs. Also cut two pieces at 34 inches, two pieces at 18 inches for feet for the legs, two pieces at 11 inches and one final one piece at 28 inches for a rear cross-brace. Sand each piece with the sandpaper until all sides are smooth.
- 2). Place the two 34-inch pieces of two-by-two on the floor parallel to one another, about a foot apart. Then, position the two 11-inch pieces in between the ends of the long pieces, forming a rectangular shape. Connect at the corners using 2.5-inch deck screws.
- 3). Stand one of the four legs against the inside corner of the rectangular frame. Use your square to verify that the leg is perpendicular to the frame, then attach to the frame with some 2.5-inch deck screws. Repeat this step with the other four legs.
- 4). Attach the two 18-inch feet to the bottom of the four legs using 2.5-inch deck screws, one spanning the left-side legs and one spanning those on the right. Be sure that the legs remain parallel, and check to see that there is about two inches of each foot extending both in front and behind the legs.
- 5). Turn the stand over, and make a pencil mark about six inches up from the bottom of each of the two rear legs. Position the 28-inch two-by-two between the two back legs at these marks, and attach to the legs using 2.5-inch deck screws.
- 6). Center the plywood on top of the frame and attach using 1.5-inch deck screws. There should be about one inch of plywood overhanging the frame on each of the four sides.
- 7). Fill all of the screw holes with wood filler and sand the entire project smooth after the filler has dried thoroughly.
- 8). Paint your new keyboard stand the color of your choice.
