How to Install Vinyl Flooring Over Particle Board Subfloor
- 1). Use your hammer to knock down any raised nail heads on the particle board surface. Thoroughly mop the surface with floor cleaner. Let dry completely, at least 48 hours.
- 2). Use your chalk snap line to lay two lines the cut the floor in half in both directions, intersecting in the middle, so it's divided into four quadrants. Put a square at the intersection before you snap to second line, to ensure they're perpendicular to each other.
- 3). Spread six or eight square feet of tile adhesive over the center of the floor, covering the intersection. The lines will be visible through the adhesive.
- 4). Lay a vinyl tile in the adhesive at the intersection in such a way that the tile is bordered on the two sides by the two lines. Press down the tile firmly.
- 5). Lay the next tiles alongside the first one, pressing their edges tightly together and keeping them all bordered by the lines. Work your way out from the middle of the floor toward the walls, spreading more mortar as needed. Lay all the full tiles that will fit.
- 6). Let the tiles set overnight. Go back and cut the partial tiles for the edges of the floor, using your tile cutter. Set them in adhesive with the cut sides facing the walls. Let them set over night.
