How to Make a Blade for the Jigger & Jolly Pottery
- 1). Determine the design you want your jigger or jolly blade to create. Jigger blades shape the underside of a plate or shallow bowl. Jolly blades shape the inside of a cup or deep bowl. The edge of the blade that touches the clay must be the negative space of the bottom of the dish or the inside of the dish.
- 2). Mark the shape of the design on the aluminum sheet with the marker. Draw the edge that will shape the clay, as well as the sides that will attach the blade to the handle or the rest of the profile tool.
- 3). Put on your safety glasses, face mask and work gloves.
- 4). Cut out the shape of the jigger or jolly blade with the saw and blade for cutting aluminum.
- 5). File the edges of the cut out jigger or jolly blade with the metal file to smooth out shards and jagged edges. This will make for a smoother piece of pottery. The finished blade can now be attached to the rest of the profile tool.
