How To Remove the Front Strut from a '92 Ford Taurus
- 1). Raise and support the car on jack stands. Remove the front wheel with the lug wrench. Remove the two bolts securing the brake caliper to the mounting bracket, using the appropriate socket. Lift the caliper off and hang it from the brake hose bracket, using a piece of wire.
- 2). Lift the hood and loosen--but do not remove--the three nuts securing the strut to the fender well. Remove the nut securing the sway-bar link to the strut, using the appropriate socket. Remove the cotter pin from the tie-rod end shaft, using a wire cutter. Remove the castle nut on the tie rod, using a wrench.
- 3). Place the tie-rod separator tool between the spindle and the tie rod, then hit it with a hammer until it comes loose. Remove the large half-shaft nut in the center of the rotor, using a ½-inch socket and ratchet. Push the half-shaft inward and remove it from the spindle.
- 4). Remove the pinch bolts securing the strut to the spindle, using the ½-inch socket. Pry the pinch bolt section of the strut apart enough to loosen the strut. Push the spindle down and lift the strut at the same time to separate the two.
- 5). Remove the three nuts on the top of the fender well securing the strut to the fender well. Lift the strut from the vehicle.
