How to Upgrade Brake Spindles on a 1988 Fox Mustang 4 Lug
- 1). Loosen the lug nuts with the tire iron. Place a jack under the frame directly behind the driver's front tire. Jack the mustang up, place a jack stand under the frame and lower the Mustang onto the jack stand. Remove the lug nuts and pull the 4-lug wheel off the brake rotor.
- 2). Remove the two bolts that secure the brake caliper to the brake spindle with a socket and ratchet. The two bolts thread trough the back of the spindle into the caliper.
- 3). Pry the center cap off the hub located in the middle of the brake rotor with a small blade screwdriver.
- 4). Remove the nut in the center of the hub with a socket and ratchet. Pull the wheel bearing out with a wheel bearing puller and clean the grease out of the rotor with a shop towel. Pull the wheel rotor off the spindle.
- 5). Remove the two bolts that secure the spindle to the lower control arm with a socket and ratchet.
- 6). Remove the bolt that secures the upper control arm to the top of the spindle with a socket and ratchet.
- 7). Pull the spindle out of the suspension and place the new spindle between the upper and lower control arms. Secure the spindle to the upper and lower control arms with the bolts, socket and ratchet.
- 8). Place the rotor onto the spindle, pace the rotor with axle grease and press the outer wheel bearing into the rotor. Secure the rotor to the spindle with the spindle nut. Press the center cap back onto the hub.
- 9). Place the caliper onto the rotor and secure it with the two bolts, socket and ratchet.

Place the wheel back onto the 4-lug rotor and secure it with the lug nuts and the tire iron. Remove the Fox Mustang from the jack stands and lower it to the ground. Double-check the lug nuts for tightness. - 11
Repeat the process on the passenger side Spindle.
