How to Repair the Oil Filter Housing Gasket on a Mercedes-Benz 400E

    • 1). Pry the rubber gasket off the top of the oil filter using a flat-head screwdriver. Lift the edges gently so another tear doesn't result.

    • 2). Place a layer of fresh sealant along the gasket ridge on the top of the oil filter.

    • 3). Press the gasket down onto the sealant ensuring that the o-ring is an intact circle without any gaps. If there are any tears in the rubber make sure they are held together by the sealant.

    • 4). Place a thin layer of sealant across the top of the gasket.

    • 5). Allow the sealant to cure for at least 30 minutes before reattaching the oil filter.
