Persons looking to find schools specializing in "scrub" or surgical technologist training have a large number of programs from which to choose. Although surgical technologists may or may not be formally trained, most employers prefer to have trained technologists. Formal training will aid in job placement. As of May 2010, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs listed more than 450 accredited surgical technologist programs across the United States. Training programs last from nine months to two years, depending on whether the student is seeking a certificate, diploma or associate's degree. - Glendale Career College asserts itself as being a "forerunner in the Allied Health education." Founded in 1946, the school offers a surgical technology curriculum that covers operating room setup and cleaning, patient operation preparation, the handling of surgical instruments and specimen handling. The college also offers training for the positions of medical assistant, medical office specialist, central service instrument technician, vocational nurse and massage therapist. Financial aid is available to qualified students.
