    • 1). Fill medium planting pots with rich loam that has a neutral pH of about 7.0. Place one or more European cucumber seeds in each pot, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Keep the soil moist by watering the soil with 2 inches of water per week.

    • 2). Keep the pots in full sun within a greenhouse and maintain a temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit until the European seeds germinate. Reduce the temperature to 70 degrees Fahrenheit when the seeds germinate. Remove the weaker seedlings as they grow until only the strongest plant remains in each pot.

    • 3). Mix 0.1 oz. ammonium nitrate in a gallon of water. Water the European cucumber seedlings with this solution once when they germinate and at least once per year thereafter. Provide the European cucumber seedlings with artificial lighting of about 2,000 foot candles to extend the day to 12 hours.

    • 4). Transplant the European seedlings to the permanent planting bed four to five weeks after planting them. The seedlings should have four to five leaves when you transplant them. Space the European cucumber seedlings 20 inches apart and space the rows 5 feet apart.

    • 5). Maintain the European cucumber plants at 80 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 70 degrees Fahrenheit at night. These plants require artificial heat if the temperature falls below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 6). Harvest European cucumbers when they reach 11 inches in length.
