How to Manually Remove Windows XP

    • 1). Turn on your computer. The CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive will only open if the unit is powered on. Insert the setup disc for the operating system you are replacing Windows XP with into the drive and close the tray. Restart Windows XP.

    • 2). Click the option that reads "Install" on the installation utility for your new operating system. Instead of loading Windows XP, your BIOS will automatically boot off the installation disc for your new operating system and load its installation utility.

    • 3). Click "Next" to begin the installation process for your new operating system. Pay close attention to what is happening on screen--all operating systems install a little bit differently, so you have to read every screen carefully to make sure you're installing your operating system correctly. When asked to specify information, such as a desired username or password for your computer, provide this information and continue to click "Next."

    • 4). Click "Finish." The installation utility for your new operating system will remove Windows XP (as well as every other byte of data) from your hard drive. The installation utility will then set up and properly configure your new operating system.
