How to Control Redheaded Saw Flies in Texas
- 1). Examine the needles regularly on small pine trees and remove clusters of redheaded sawfly eggs or larva by hand. Place the eggs and larva in a bucket filled with equal parts bleach and water to kill them.
- 2). Fill a clean garden sprayer with pesticide designed for use on pine trees and for control of sawflies. Some pesticides are in a concentrated form and require dilution before use. Refer to the instructions for the type pesticide you choose.
- 3). Apply the pesticide to the pine trees. Spray the bark, trunk, branches and needles with the pesticide until lightly coated. Wait until a warm, calm day when no chance of rain is in the forecast to apply the pesticide.
- 4). Repeat the process seven to 10 days after the first treatment. Each brand of pesticide has its own directions and some may not require a second treatment. Refer to the directions on the pesticide label for more information.
