How to Make a Cool Model of a Pyramid
- 1). Use a printable scale model of a pyramid from school or a website. The Public Broadcasting System's Nova website at PBS.org advises printing out a scale pattern for a pyramid. Feed a sheet of card stock into your computer printer and print the pattern.
- 2). Print a sheet of plain paper with the pyramid pattern. This will serve as a pattern for the pyramid's covering.
- 3). Cut the card stock pyramid model out along the solid lines. Don't cut the dotted lines; those are for folding. Cut the plain paper model the same way.
- 4). Fold the card stock pyramid model along the dotted lines. Each triangle forms a face of the pyramid and fold upward from the central square base.

Have your assistant hold two triangles together so their sides touch. Apply masking tape to the full length of the two triangles where they touch. Tape the triangles from the base to the tip of the pyramid. - 6). Tear newspaper pages in half and wad them up tightly. Fill the pyramid with wadded newspaper to give it more weight and prevent the sides from losing shape. Have a helper hold the bottoms of the untapped sides together so you can get as much wadded newspaper inside the model without having the wads fall out. Check that the newspaper doesn't cause bulging. The triangles need to be flat. If the pyramid bulges, remove some news paper until all the sides are straight. Tape the other adjacent triangles to put the pyramid together.
- 7). Use the plain paper pattern on self-adhesive tan shelf paper. Have your assistant help to hold the pattern in place to avoid stretching the shelf material. Trace around the pattern with a pen.
- 8). Cut the pyramid cover along the pen lines. Carefully remove the backing and place the card stock pyramid model in the middle of the pyramid cover. Have your assistant help hold the pyramid model. Fold one shelf paper triangle up and press it against the matching triangle pyramid face. Repeat to cover each pyramid face.
- 9). Use the pyramid paper pattern to trace a pyramid cover with the pen on the non-slip shelf cover. Cut the pyramid cover along the solid lines.

Have your assistant hold the pyramid upside down. Apply white glue to the pyramid's base. Center the pyramid cover so the triangles will match up with the pyramid's faces. Press the center square of the shelf material against the pyramid's base. Set it down on its base. Apply glue to one pyramid face and press a triangle of shelf material to it. Repeat for each pyramid face.
