    Drupe

    • Almonds can be found within a fruit called a drupe. The outer layer of a drupe is the pericarp or the ovary wall. These types of fruits can be dry fruits such as coconuts and almonds, or they can be fleshy such as peaches and plums.

    Mesocarp

    • Within the walls of the pericarp is the mesocarp, a dry and leathery substance that surrounds the inner layers of the almond.

    Endocarp

    • The area immediately surround the edible part of the almond is called the endocarp. This is the hard outer wall of the seed.

    Almond Tree Propagation

    • The various layers of the almond are the protective coatings that, as the seed ripens and matures, eventually dry up and break away after the seed has made it safely to the ground and is ready to sprout. These sprouts may eventually form a mature almond tree and grow more seeds to begin the process again.
