Facts About Yucca Root
- According to the University of Michigan's website, yucca is used in connection with the inflammatory conditions of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. The anti-inflammatory component of yucca is saponin, a biological compound that mimics the action of steroids. Native Americans have also used yucca to treat dandruff, sunburn and diseases of the kidney and liver.
- Up to 5 cups of homemade yucca root tea can be taken each day. The tea is made by boiling 0.25 oz of yucca root in a pint of water for 15 minutes. As much as 2 g of yucca root may be taken in pill form each day.
- The roots of the yucca plant have a thick covering that resembles tree bark. The inside is white with a sponge-like texture.
