How to Repair Water Stained Unfinished Hardwood Floors
- 1). Scrub the water spots with a citrus cleaner and scrub brush. Citrus cleaners are abrasive cleaners that will help to remove the water spots. Just spray the spots and scrub.
- 2). Make a solution of trisodium phosphate, chlorine bleach and water in a bucket. Use the scrub brush by dipping it in the solution and scrubbing the water spots.
- 3). Sand the whole floor until it is smooth and even. It is alright to sand the floor when it is wet.
- 4). Allow the floor to dry for at least 24 hours. Ideally, windows should be opened and a fan should be set in the room so that the floor will dry completely. If these conditions cannot be met, increase the drying time to 48 to 72 hours.
- 5). Paint the wood floor with the first coat of varnish.
- 6). Allow it 12 hours to dry.
- 7). Give the floor a second coat of varnish.
