How to Keep Animals From Fruit Trees

    Build a Structure

    • 1). Build a makeshift frame around each fruit tree. Drive star pickets into the ground to make a triangle or square around the tree.

    • 2). Connect polythene pipes to each star picket, ensuring the pipes are taller than the tree.

    • 3). Stabilize the structure by including space bars of pipe along the top of the makeshift frame.

    • 4). Pull a net around the structure. It needs to have a mesh size of 40 mm or smaller to protect the tree from smaller animals and prevent animals from being harmed by the net.

    • 5). Check the nets carefully each day. Let any animals that get inside out immediately without harming them. Also, free any animals that happen to get caught in the net. If you feel unqualified, contact your local animal control.

    Scare Tactics

    • 1). Erect a scarecrow to keep birds away from your fruit trees. Loud noises, such as firing blank ammunition, can also scare away birds. Be careful not to actually harm the birds.

    • 2). Create shadows by hanging large items up in the tree that don't weigh a lot. They won't damage your tree, but they may trick animals into thinking that a predator bird is nearby.

    • 3). Surround the trunks of larger trees with sheet metal to prevent animals from being able to grip the trunk and climb it.
