How to Attach Dummy Strap Hinges to a Fiberglass Door
- 1). Select a style of strap hinge that you like. If you are attaching it to the side of the door with exposed hinges, the color of the dummy hinges should match that of the real ones.
- 2). Decide how many strap hinges you need. Most doors have three hinges, so if you want one for each existing hinge you will need three.
- 3). Hold the hinges in place on the door and use a pencil to mark the positions of the screw holes.
- 4). Drill a pilot hole--a small hole that allows easier screwing--into each pencil mark. The drill bit used should be slightly thinner than the screw to ensure that the screw will be able to bite into the fiberglass.
- 5). Screw the hinges to the door.
