Correct Way to Install Dynamat
- 1). Decide which parts of the car you intend to insulate with Dynamat. You can do the trunk, the interior door panels and the interior floor. While the floor is an intensive process that will require removal of the entire interior, the trunk and door panels can be done with minimal parts removal. Be sure that your windows are up before removing the door skin so that the glass is not obstructing access to the interior portions of the door.
- 2). Using a soft pry tool and screwdrivers, remove the door panels on your vehicle. Unplug the electrical window connector before pulling the door skin too far. Most door panels will be held on with tension springs, which are pulled out with a door removal tool, or clips that require you to pull the door panel up, then away. There will also be a screw or two, usually by the door release latch.
- 3). Orient the Dynamat sheets to the metal door. Dynamat comes in sheets with an adhesive tacky side and a silvery metallic side. Cut the Dynamat to the shape of the interior door panel, then peel the plastic off the adhesive side. Place the cut piece up against the door panel and firmly press it into place. If you use multiple pieces, be sure to overlap them so there is no gap between sheets.
- 4). Cut additional pieces of Dynamat to place around the door speaker opening, and then reach into the door to place a square piece on the outer metal door's interior, behind the speaker magnet. Once completed, reinstall the door panels, making sure to reconnect the electrical connectors.
- 5). Open the trunk and remove the trunk carpeting. If your car has a spare tire in the trunk, remove the spare tire as well. Lay down Dynamat onto the rear metal surface of the trunk, peeing the adhesive off the tacky side. Press firmly to allow it to bond to the metal surface. Once completed, reinstall the carpet and replace the spare tire.
