How to Remove Trojans From Windows XP
- 1). Restart your Windows XP computer and press the "F8" button as it starts up. Select "Safe Mode with Networking" from the boot menu and press the "Enter" key. Log in to your computer in Safe Mode with your regular user account information.
- 2). Open a web browser and download an anti-malware program onto your computer, such as Malwarebytes, Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool or Spybot Search & Destroy (see References).
- 3). Open the anti-malware installation file by double clicking on it. Install the program on your computer and then open the software from its Start Menu or Desktop shortcut.
- 4). Click on the "Update" button to update the software with the latest anti-malware definitions. Click on the "Scan Now" button to start scanning your computer for Trojans. This process can take several minutes (or even a few hours) so be patient and wait until it finishes.
- 5). Click on the "Results" button to view any Trojans or other malware programs that are found. Click the "Remove" button and restart your computer to remove them from your system.
