How to Trim a Lantana Bush
- 1). Prune a lantana bush hard after the last frost in the spring when new growth is just beginning to form at the plant base. Use pruning shears or clippers to remove old growth, making clean, sharp cuts close to the ground. Lantana will grow and thrive after pruning.
- 2). Trim the tips of the stems off when they are finished flowering to encourage a lantana bush to produce another cycle of flowers.
- 3). Prune a lantana bush back during the growing season if it is growing too large for its space. According to Clemson University, only remove one-third of the plant, then water and fertilize it. Cut lantana branches just above a leaf node or parent branch, making clean cuts with pruning shears or clippers.
