How to Make a Simple Coin Battery
- 1). Set a penny on top of a paper towel. Trace around it with a pencil. Repeat until you have six circles on the paper towel.
- 2). Cut the circles from the paper towel.
- 3). Clean the pennies and nickels with soapy water and a rag. Rinse the coins and allow them to dry.
- 4). Mix salt with water.
- 5). Tape a bare copper wire to a nickel and another to a penny. Set the nickel down with the taped wire sitting on a firm surface.
- 6). Dip a cut piece of paper towel in the salt water. Set the wet paper towel on top of the nickel. Set a penny on top of the paper towel.
- 7). Continue alternating nickel, wet paper towel and penny until you have the penny with the taped wire sitting on top of the stack.
- 8). Connect the loose ends of each copper wire to a lightbulb to test the battery.
