    • 1). Unscrew all the cabinet doors from their hinges. Remove them from their mounted positions, placing them on a clean drop cloth.

    • 2). Put on a pair of rubber gloves. Combine 1/4 cup TSP with 1 gallon of water in a bucket. Dunk a sponge in the bucket and wring it out. Wipe down all the cabinet doors with your sponge, ridding them of caked on dirt or grease. Rinse them with clean water.

    • 3). Sand the exterior of the cabinet doors with 150 grit sandpaper. Wipe them down with a tack cloth. Brush on a paint stripper with a 3-inch nylon brush. Leave the stripper on until the paint begins to soften. Scrape the paint off with a rubber scraper.

    • 4). Sand the exterior of each cabinet again with 150 grit sandpaper in an electric sander. Dust off with a tack cloth. Rinse off your nylon brush thoroughly and apply a wood conditioner to the cabinets. Let it soak for 10 minutes and then wipe it off with a soft cloth. Rinse off your nylon brush completely while you wait for the conditioner to soak.

    • 5). Spray on an oil-based primer, making even back and forth movements with your spray can. If applying a stain, dip your nylon brush into the stain and coat it evenly across the wood, allowing it to soak, and then wiping off the excess with a soft cloth. Apply two coats in this fashion, allowing the stain to dry between coats.

    • 6). Spray on an oil-based coat of paint with your spray can once the primer is dry. Make uniform, back and forth movements with your can until you cover all of the cabinet. Allow the first coat to dry and then apply a second coat.
