    Email Conversion

    • 1). Log in to Amazon.com's "Manage Your Kindle" page.

    • 2). Enter the email addresses that you will use to email the PDF file to your Kindle. Only these email accounts are allowed to send email to your Kindle account, which prevents email spam to the Kindle email addresses.

    • 3). Create a new message in your email, and attach the PDF file. Type the word "Convert" into the subject line of the email.

    • 4). Send the email to either of two Kindle email addresses that contain the name given to your Kindle when it was registered. The kindle_name@kindle.com email address receives the file, converts it into a Kindle .azw file, and sends it to your Kindle over the 3G network for a nominal fee. The alternate, kindle_name@free.kindle.com does the same thing, but sends the document via the Wi-Fi network free of charge.

    • 5). Activate the Kindle's wireless capability to receive the converted file.

    Mobipocket Conversion

    • 1). Download and install the Creator Publisher Edition (for advanced users) from Mobipocket.

    • 2). Open Mobipocket Creator, and select the link for "Adobe PDF" from the "Import From Existing File" list.

    • 3). Click the "Browse" button on the next page to select the PDF file from its location on your computer. Change any of the other options as desired; these include the folder the new file will be saved in, the language and the encoding type.

    • 4). Select the document on the page that appears once the file is imported, and click "Build" in the toolbar at the top of the window.

    • 5). Choose the compression and encryption options, then click "Build." You can then preview the file or open the folder containing the book.

    • 6). Select the .prc file, and transfer it to your Kindle via the USB connector provided with your Kindle.

    Stanza Conversion

    • 1). Download and install Stanza. As of 2011, this is available in a beta version for either Mac or Windows.

    • 2). Connect the Kindle to your computer with the USB cable provided.

    • 3). Open Stanza, select "File," "Open File" and then select the PDF file. This opens the PDF file in the Stanza window.

    • 4). Select "File" again, then "Export Book As" and choose "Amazon Kindle" from the list.

    • 5). Choose your Kindle documents folder as the location to save the file, and click "Save." This transfers the file to your Kindle in the .azw format. This cannot be done with files that have DRM restrictions.
