How to Attach Molding to Plaster
- 1). Measure the length of the wall to determine your molding's length. Mark this measurement on a piece of molding and make the appropriate cut. If this piece of molding will be in a corner, use a miter saw to cut the corner end to a 45 degree miter.
- 2). Place the molding onto the wall where you will be securing it. Use a stud finder to determine where you can place the nails. Slide the stud finder along the wall until it indicates the edge of a stud. Slide the stud finder farther along the wall to determine the other side of the stud. The nail should go between these two marks for a secure hold.
- 3). Drive a finishing nail through the molding, plaster and into the stud with a nail gun. Continue this process down the entire length of the molding.
- 4). Measure the length for your next piece of molding and cut the molding to that length. Repeat the previous steps to secure that piece of molding to the wall. Continue measuring, cutting and nailing until you have secured molding around the entire room.
