Speaker Installation in a Chevy Silverado
- 1). Disconnect the truck's battery, as a precaution, by loosening the clamp for the negative cable with a wrench then removing it.
- 2). Pry off the control switches and trim covers from the door with a trim stick. Remove the door panel's mounting screws with a screwdriver, pry up the panel with the stick then lift it off.
- 3). Remove the mounting screws for the current speaker, pull it out of the door then disconnect the electrical connector. On some models of the Silverado, the speaker has a locking tab that must be pressed to remove the speaker.
- 4). Connect the electrical connector to the new speaker. If the speaker won't fit the electrical connector, you'll need to cut the connector off with wire cutters, then strip off the ends of the insulation and connect the wires to the speaker's connector either by crimping or soldering them.
- 5). Crimp the wires by twisting the bare leads of the color-coordinated wires together, installing a cap onto them and clamping down on the cap with a wire crimping tool to tighten it.
- 6). Solder the wires by lining up the bare leads so they touch each other, laying a piece of solder from a spool onto the wire and heating the wire with a soldering iron. Cover the soldered wires with heat-shrink tubing and a heat gun.
- 7). Install the speaker into the door with its mounting screws or tab.
- 8). Reconnect the trim panel with its clips and screws. Reinstall the smaller trim bezels and door/window controls.
- 9). Reconnect the negative battery cable.
