The Toyota 4Runner SUV came into the market in 1984. The vehicle's keyless entry options include both aftermarket and factory options. Now in the 5th generation, the 2010 Limited model includes keyless entry as standard. Other generations or models may require a dealer installation or aftermarket keyless kit to allow wireless unlocking of the doors. Options include a remote starter, remote window control and even a remote for the heater or air conditioner.

    Factory Keyless Entry

    • A Toyota keyless entry receiver and key fob bought and installed at a local Toyota dealer constitutes the easiest and most compatible option. The receiver will fit without car modification, and multiple models exist for every make and model of car. The downside of a factory keyless entry system lies in the price, as factory options are often more expensive than aftermarket versions.

    Viper Aftermarket Keyless Systems

    • Viper wireless entry systems consist of a single generic product that fits into any car or SUV. The keyless entry model is the Viper 211HV 1-Way keyless entry system. Other Viper products allow the Toyota 4Runner to remote start, include an alarm, and even allow you to control them with an application running on a mobile smart phone. This option offers a lower price than a Toyota-made option, but the price quickly jumps up with other options added.

    Bulldog Keyless Entry

    • The Bulldog keyless entry system works with any vehicle that has electric door locks. You must install an actuator on the door locks if they are not electric. The system comes with built-in door lock relays and includes a trunk release and control of the parking lights. Other options such as security, remote start and air conditioner control, will increase the price of the unit. Bulldog does not offer a smart phone control option.

    Scytek Keyless Entry

    • Scytek offers keyless systems that use Bluetooth cellphones and the standard keyless entry remotes to unlock the car, along with security with camera and satellite monitoring. Like the other aftermarket options, the systems offer compatibility with any car that has electric locks. The lower options are quite affordable and upgradable, while the camera monitoring and satellite tracking is expensive.
