How to Attach Wood to a Cement Foundation
- 1). Press the closed end of the foundation straps into the wet concrete every four feet--within 2 feet of each corner and within 1 foot of each window or door. Place the straps approximately two inches from the foundation edge if framing with 2-by-4s, and three inches from the edge if using 2-by-6s, so that they will be centered on the bottom plates (the bottom, horizontal framing member).
- 2). Bend the straps open so that the bands lie flat against the foundation. Starting in a corner, lay the lumber on the straps so that the edge is flush with the foundation edge.
- 3). Bend the straps back over the lumber. Drive at least two nails into each strap so the lumber is held securely in place.
- 4). Continue laying lumber around the perimeter, cutting to fit as necessary, until you return to the starting corner.
- 5). Measure and lay interior walls according to the building plans. Attach with masonry nails.
- 1). Lay the first piece of lumber along the edge of the foundation with one end in a corner and the edge flush with the foundation edge.
- 2). Drill a hole every four feet--within two feet of every corner and within one foot of every window or door--through the lumber and foundation. Drill two inches from the edge if framing with 2-by-4s and three inches from the edge if framing with 2-by-6s; the hole should go at least two inches into the concrete.
- 3). Insert an anchor into each hole, and tighten it with either the impact wrench or the socket wrench until the head is against the lumber.
- 4). Continue around the foundation, cutting lumber as needed, until you return to the starting corner.
- 5). Measure and lay interior walls according to the building plans. Attach with masonry nails.
