How To Recycle Your Aluminum Cans
- 1). Contact your local waste management company to determine if they have a curbside recycling program that accepts aluminum cans. Write down the pick-up dates for the curbside program, and request that the company deliver a recycling bin to your home.
- 2). Log on to Earth911 if your local waste management company does not have a curbside recycling program, or you wish to recycle the cans yourself. Type "aluminum cans" in the text box under "Find recycling centers for," and type your zip code in the text box under "Near." Click the "Search" icon.
- 3). Review the list of recycling centers near your location and write down the address and hours of operation for one or two centers.
- 4). Gather all of the aluminum cans in your home.
- 5). Pour any excess liquids inside the cans down a sink drain. Run lukewarm tap water through each can by placing the mouth of the can underneath a running faucet. Turn the can upside down to drain out the water and remove any dirt or debris from inside the can.
- 6). Place the aluminum cans in the recycling bin if you are using curbside recycling. Place the recycling bin on the curb outside of your home early in the morning on the designated pick up date.
- 7). Place the aluminum cans in a large container such as a trash bag, if you are not using a curbside recycling program.
- 8). Bring the cans to the local recycling center. Deliver the entire bag of cans to a recycling agent or place them in the designated bin. If the recycling center has an automated recycling device for aluminum cans on site, carefully place the cans through the device one at a time.
