How to Eliminate Household Spiders
- 1). Fill cracks along the home foundation with silicone caulk and seal or fix other entry points, such as holes in screen doors, to keep spiders from entering the home. Screen-repair kits consist of small pieces of screen you can cut to fit over holes and adhesive to bond the patches to the screen.
- 2). Remove clutter from floors in the house, such as clothing, cardboard boxes or stacks of books or magazines. Spiders like to hide in and around objects scattered on the floor.
- 3). Spray spider insecticide along the outside barrier of the home once or twice a month. Or cut up hedge apples and lay them around the house. Sprinkle baking soda around the house for a safe spider repellent if you have children or pets.
- 4). Use yellow bulbs for outdoor lights. The yellow light attracts fewer insects, which in turn draws fewer spiders.
- 5). Prune bushes and vines next to the house where spiders hide. Store firewood, composting material and building supplies away from the home in a detached shed or garage.
- 6). Spray outside cobwebs with a garden hose. Most spiders build cobwebs along posts or under roofed porches to escape from the rain. Spray behind shutters to eliminate hidden spider webs.
