    Remove Old Brake Pads

    • 1). Lift the Volvo 240 DL with a floor jack and prop up with jack stands.

    • 2). Remove one of the front wheels, following the Volvo 240 DL owner's manual, if necessary.

    • 3). Remove the retaining pins and spring clips.

    • 4). Remove the old brake pads and retaining pins with a ratchet and socket..

    • 5). Clean the brake caliper with a dry rag. Examine the brake caliper and dust caps for defects and wear and tear. If you see any leaks or defects, replace the part.

    • 6). Check the brake fluid levels in the master-cylinder reservoir. Empty some of the brake fluid until the reservoir is half full.

    • 7). Apply pressure to the brake caliper pistons with a C-clamp.

    Installation of New Brake Pads

    • 1). Replace the dust cap for the brake pistons, if it appears damaged. Replace the rotor or resurface the rotor, if the surface of the disc brakes needs it. Replace the rubber seals situated alongside the guide pins, if faulty.

    • 2). Place the new brake pads, retaining pins, retaining springs and spring clips.

    • 3). Fill the reservoir with brake fluid.

    • 4). Press the brake pedals until the brake pads set firmly.

    • 5). Put the wheels and tires back on the Volvo 240 DL

    • 6). Lower the Volvo 240 DL and test the brake pedal before driving on the road.
