How to Disconnect a Shift Rod on 15HP Boat Motor
- 1). Loosen the nuts underneath the top lip of the 15hp boat motor gear case with an open-end wrench, and slide the gear case down, away from the upper exhaust housing 3/4 of an inch.
- 2). Move the gearshift into the forward gear. Use a standard screwdriver to loosen the two bolts that secure the shift linkage rods between the gear case and exhaust housing. The two bolts are located near the front of the motor, between the gear case and exhaust housing with a standard screwdriver slot on the side of each bolt. You will see the bolts when the motor sections are separated.
- 3). Unfasten the upper bolt that sits near the front of the motor between the upper exhaust housing and gear case completely with the screwdriver to disconnect the shift rod from the exhaust housing, and slide the gear case and shift rod off the exhaust housing of the 15hp boat motor.
