How Do I Replace the Brake Rotors on a 2005 MINI Cooper?
- 1). Place a set of wheel chocks behind the rear wheels and jack the car up with an automobile jack. Position a jack under the vehicle near the jacking point and raise it up to the frame of the automobile.
- 2). Remove the wheel that you are starting with, removing the lug nuts with a lug wrench.
- 3). Use a socket and ratchet to remove the retaining bolts from the backside of the caliper then remove the brake caliper. Secure the brake caliper to the strut with a wire tie. If you simply allow the caliper to hang, you will damage the brake line.
- 4). Remove the retaining screw with a hex socket and a ratchet. Pull the rotor off of the wheel and put the new one on. Secure the new rotor with the retaining screw and the hex socket and ratchet.
- 5). Place the caliper onto the wheel assembly and secure it by tightening the retaining bolts with the socket and ratchet. Remount the wheel onto the car and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench. Remove the jack stand and lower the vehicle to the ground. Repeat the process for the other wheel. Always replace brakes or rotors in sets, such as both front wheels.
