Native New England Plants & Trees
- Some of the native perennials in the New England states include the black-eyed Susan, catmint, daylilies, goldenrod, purple coneflower, stonecrop and yarrow. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center reports that the white and red baneberries are specifcally native to Rhode Island.
- Native shrubs that occur in the wild in New England include bayberry, chokeberry, fetterbush, sumac, sweet fern and spirea. The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection lists several dogwoods, mountain laurel, rhododendron and viburnum as shrubs native to the commonwealth.
- Some of the trees that are native to New England include American holly, Eastern red cedar, gray birch, pin oak, sourwood and white pine. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center lists sassafras, Atlantic white cedar, red maple, sugar maple and silver maple as Massachusetts natives.
