How Water Is Used in Photosynthesis?
- Photosynthesis cannot occur without water. When deprived of water, a plant will wither. Eventually a water-deprived plant will die because it cannot manufacture energy to sustain life.
- Photosynthesis requires water. When six water molecules join with six carbon dioxide molecules, a chemical reaction occurs that changes the molecules into sugar.
- The plant's roots absorb water from the ground. The xylem plant cells then transport the water throughout the plant. Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplasts of the plant.
