How to Kill Willows

    • 1). Using a chain saw, cut the willow tree at the base of the trunk. Position the chainsaw at a downward angle, and cut approximately halfway through the tree. Position the chainsaw farther down from the first cut, and slice into the tree at an upward angle to create a notch in the shape of a V.

    • 2). Move to the opposite side of the willow, and cut the trunk at a flat angle at the same level as the midpoint of your first notch. Leave one-tenth of the willow's diameter uncut. Move out of the way of the willow's landing area, and allow the tree to fall.

    • 3). Cut off the willow's limbs with the chain saw. Cut the bark into sections manageable enough to lift and move.

    • 4). Call the waste disposal company that services your area for instructions as to how to properly bind the limbs and bark for pickup. Use twine to wrap the bark and limbs according to the waste disposal company's directions before you set it out for pickup.

    • 5). Use your chainsaw to slice the willow tree's stump down the center until you reach the ground. Pour a general-purpose herbicide down through the center crack in the stump. The herbicide will saturate the root system and kill it.
