3D For The Masses In 2011 we can expect to see phenomenal growth in all things 3D, yet some consumers are still reluctant to make the switch.
Perhaps the two biggest (and most irrational) fears is that 3D is only a fad or upgrading is expensive.
Both of those misnomers couldn't be further from the truth.
Fact is, 3D entertainment is not only here to stay, but is now available at an affordable price; quickly moving from the hot "it" technology to a standard feature in most consumer electronics.
3D Now Affordable At the end of last year, we began to see giant price drops in both 3D televisions and players.
Yet even more significant than that typical pre-holiday price slashing was the introduction of brand new entry-level models.
Manufacturers such as Panasonic began to offer entry models with the sole intention to spark a buyer frenzy, as with their highly popular DMP-BDT100 3D player.
This unit became the first to offer many of the primary features of the higher end units but at a price point below $200 - a direct assault the standard "2D" market.
3D More Than Movies In addition to DVD players and TVs, last year consumers were also introduced to new 3D gaming technologies and titles.
Computer graphics giant NVIDIA released new cards while LCD manufactures such as Lenovo introduced brand new displays to meet the insane 3D demand of online gamers.
Panasonic a leader in this 3D revolution also released the first 3D consumer high-def video camera, which solidified 3D as a mainstay in the home entertainment marketplace.
Where is 3D Headed in 2011? 2011 will certainly be known as 'The Year of 3D' as the popular technology becomes more integrated in everything from cellphones and laptops to portable gaming and media players.
In fact, at this year's CES, gaming giant Nintendo announced its release of their new 3DS portable gaming system, while at the same time, Steve Jobs and Apple were securing new patents for the next generation of 3D displays which won't require the use of eyeware.
Fact is, 3D consumer entertainment is here to stay and now is time get on-board and enjoy this exciting and affordable technology.
