    • 1). Locate the transfer case filler plug. It is at the rear of the transfer case where the rear driveshaft attaches to it, and has a 3/8-inch square hole in it.

    • 2). Wipe the area around the filler plug with a shop rag. Remove the filler plug with a ratchet by inserting the square head of the ratchet into the hole. Turn counterclockwise to remove the plug.

    • 3). Stick your finger in the filler hole. Lubricant should be almost level with the bottom of the hole. If not, fill with the appropriate lubricant, which should be MERCON multi-purpose automatic transmission fluid.

    • 4). Replace the filler plug and tighten.
