How to Check the Front Transfer Case Oil Level in a 2002 Ford Ranger
- 1). Locate the transfer case filler plug. It is at the rear of the transfer case where the rear driveshaft attaches to it, and has a 3/8-inch square hole in it.
- 2). Wipe the area around the filler plug with a shop rag. Remove the filler plug with a ratchet by inserting the square head of the ratchet into the hole. Turn counterclockwise to remove the plug.
- 3). Stick your finger in the filler hole. Lubricant should be almost level with the bottom of the hole. If not, fill with the appropriate lubricant, which should be MERCON multi-purpose automatic transmission fluid.
- 4). Replace the filler plug and tighten.
