How to Build a Simple Model of a Neon Atom
- 1). String two beads onto the shorter wire. Glue the beads onto the wire by placing a small amount of glue in each bead's opening and holding the bead in place until the glue dries.
- 2). String the remaining eight beads of the same color onto the longer wire. Glue them in place by adding a drop of glue in each bead's opening and holding the beads in place until the glue dries.
- 3). Bend each wire into a circle and secure the ends with tape.
- 4). Tie the circles together with string. Leave space between the rings so that the smaller ring hangs inside the larger one.
- 5). Glue the remaining 20 beads onto the Styrofoam ball. These represent your protons and neutrons in the nucleus.
- 6). Tie a piece of string to the inner ring. Glue the other end of the string to the Styrofoam ball so that the ball hangs within the inner ring.
