Type of Vacuum to Use on Wood & Laminate Flooring
- Use a stick-type vacuum like the Bissell Easy Vac, Dirt Devil Power Bagless Stick Vacuum or the Black & Decker 18 Volt Cordless Pivot Stick Vacuum to maintain your wood floors. Most stick-type vacuums are bagless, lightweight and include a HEPA filter to reduce allergens. Vacuuming removes dirt and dust from the cracks and crevices present in wood floors and along any baseboards.
- Do not use a regular vacuum that has a beater bar, because it will scratch your wood floors. Using a stick-type vacuum minimizes scratching. Dust mop your wood floors with a dry mop instead of using water.
- To maintain a laminate floor, use a stick-type vacuum as well, like the Hoover Platinum Linx Stick Vac or Dirt Devil Power Bagless Stick Vacuum. Do not use a regular vacuum with a beater bar. Also, do not use a broom to sweep your laminate floor either, because it can place small scratches on your floor.
- Don't drag furniture across your laminate floors; use protective pads if you need to move items across the floor. After vacuuming your laminate floors, use a dry mop to remove any dust from areas where the stick-type vacuum can't reach.
- Laminate floors can be mopped with water, unlike wood floors. Use a solution of liquid soap (about one teaspoon) and warm water in a bucket. Don't overdo it on the soap and don't use a commercial mop product---it will leave your floors dull.
