    • 1). Press the "Eject" button on your computer's CD or DVD drive, insert the Windows XP disc and close it. Shut down your computer. If you're using a laptop, plug in the AC adapter as the Windows setup process may take a while.

    • 2). Press the "Power" button to turn the computer on. Immediately look at the screen and search for a prompt describing how to enter setup or BIOS. Most computers display a message that reads something like "Press F2 for setup." If you can't find the setup or BIOS prompt, consult your computer's instruction manual.

    • 3). Wait for the BIOS screen to appear. Select "Boot" or "Boot Order." Use the arrow keys and "Enter" to move the CD or DVD drive to the first spot in the boot order.

    • 4). Use the arrow keys to select "Save & Exit." Press "Enter," then "Y" or "Enter" again. Wait for your computer to reboot. When the message "Press any key to boot from CD" appears, press any key.

    • 5). Follow the instructions in the Windows XP Setup application to install the operating system.
