    Quarter round

    • Use quarter round to cover small gaps between the end of your floor and the wall. 1) Quarter round looks like a quarter of a circle when you view it from the end. One side is round, while two sides are flat. Buy your quarter round twice as large as the gap you cover, so if your gap from your floor to your wall is 1/8 an inch you want quarter round that is 1/4 an inch wide.

Quarter round is a good solution to cover your floor if you have an expansion gap, the gap between the end of floor and your wall. It allows the floor to expand and contract as the temperature changes. You can buy quarter round with and without a finish.

    End Cap Molding

    • Use end cap molding, also known as square nose molding, to connect two different types of flooring. It leaves a clean finish and you do not have to push the two type of floors together. End cap molding can replace quarter round. If you want a nice trim along your floor and wall in places where you do need an expansion gap, End cap molding will do the job. It looks like a large square with a long thing piece along the top of the square that comes out from one side.

    T Molding

    • To use T molding, the two floors you connect together must be the same height. If the floors you connect with the T molding, are not flush, then it will not work. This works well to connect floors from two different rooms, to make a nice transition from one room's floor into another room. T molding looks like a T. The wide cross part rests on each piece of flooring, while the bottom piece goes in between the pieces of the floor. Leave some space between the subfloor and the bottom of the T molding to allow for expansion.

    Reducer Molding

    • Reducer molding joins two pieces of flooring together, that are at different heights. It works well when you have two different types of floors that must be made flush and neat. The Reducer molding provides a smooth transition from one style of floor to the other. One side of the mold is thin, which then sits next to a broad piece. The thin piece rests on the higher floor, while the broad piece sits down with the lower floor.
