How to Remove Old Veneers
- 1). Fill your iron with water and turn it on. Make sure it is on the highest heat setting.
- 2). Place the blade of a putty knife between the veneer and the surface from which you want the veneer removed. Slide the blade in as best you can and try to lift up one corner of the veneer.
- 3). Place the iron directly on top of the veneer's surface. Move the iron in a circular motion over the corner you tried to lift. Spray a mist of steam every so often. As the pried corner starts to lift more, move to the center of the veneer and, finally, to the other end.
- 4). Release the iron's steam directly into the area between the veneer and its surface. If the glue holding the two together is being stubborn, this will help to melt it.
- 5). Continue to pry the old veneer off with a putty knife throughout this process until the whole layer comes off.
