Some newer pansy cultivars have been bred to bloom in the fall. But most pansies produce their best flowers in the spring, according to Utah State University and Clemson University extensions.
Planted in containers or beds, they will last until mid-summer if grown in spring or until cold weather takes over in the fall. In warmer growing zones, pansies are grown as a winter flower.
