    • 1). Place the casing flat against the right side of a doorframe where you want to install the moulding. Stand it up on the floor with the thin side of the moulding facing the door opening. Reach up with a pencil, and mark the exact point where you want the inside, or "short point," of the miter to begin.

    • 2). Swing the arm of the miter to the right side, away from you and lock it into the 45-degree preset on the miter saw.

    • 3). Place the moulding on the table of the miter saw with the pencil line facing the blade.

    • 4). Place your right hand on the handle of the miter saw. Keep the saw turned off. Pull the saw blade down as if you were going to cut the moulding. Lean in so you can see. Slide the moulding back and forth with your left hand until the blade and the pencil line are perfectly aligned.

    • 5). Swing the blade back into its upright position. There is a trigger on the inside of the handle, pull the trigger to turn on the saw. Hold tight to the moulding with your left hand. Lower the saw down until you almost touch the wood, glance in one more time to insure your blade and pencil line are lined-up, and then pull down on the handle in a smooth motion, cutting through the moulding. Let the blade spring back up as you release the trigger, stopping the rotation of the blade. When the blade stops, let go of the handle.

    • 6). Cut left-side miters by swiveling the saw blade to the left side and reversing your moulding and hand positions to the other side.
