How to Link Carpet Squares

    • 1). Pre-heat the seaming iron. Following the manufacturer's temperature recommendations on the seaming tape, turn on the seaming iron and allow it to heat up.

    • 2). Cut the seaming tape and lay it down sticky side up. Place the two carpet squares next to each other on top of the seaming tape, with half of the tape covering each square.

    • 3). Melt the seaming tape. Run the seaming iron sandwiched between the underside of the carpet and the top side of the tape (with the carpet right-side up). Slowly slide the iron along the top of the tape until it starts to melt. Immediately press the carpet squares down on top of the hot tape, creating a permanent bond where the two carpet squares meet. You need to keep the carpet and tape very close together while seaming, because the tape cools so rapidly.

    • 4). Finish the area rug. In an alternating brick-like pattern, stagger the placement of the carpet squares in an eye-pleasing pattern, heating and seaming only two squares together at a time.
