    Tacks

    • 1). Choose a bare area on a wall to hang the poster. Posters are best viewed at eye level, so do not choose a location too high, as this will not be visually appealing and will be more difficult and dangerous to hang.

    • 2). Test a sturdy chair to stand on to hang the poster, if necessary. The chair should have four legs and minimal cushioning. If the chair has a back to it, make sure the back is positioned in front of you and not behind. Bring the chair over to the wall on which you intend to hang the poster.

    • 3). Measure the width of the top of the poster you are hanging, as well as the height. Use a pencil and a ruler or measuring tape to mark the position of each corner on the wall. Use a level to double-check that each edge is even and straight.

    • 4). Twist the sharp end of a tack slowly and carefully into the wall. Hold only one tack at a time so you don't risk dropping one and accidentally stepping on it. Place a tack in each of the four corners.

    • 5). Lay the poster over the wall area and the tacks. Position magnets over the poster where the tacks are located, to hold the poster in place. The tacks and the magnets will keep the poster in place without damaging the paper.

    Poster Putty

    • 1). Choose a bare area on a wall to hang the poster. Posters are best viewed at eye level, so do not choose a location too high, as this will not be visually appealing and will be more difficult and dangerous to hang.

    • 3). Wipe the wall down with a rag and water to clean off any dirt or dust. This will make poster putty adhere more securely to the wall. Allow the wall to dry completely before moving on.

    • 4). Measure the width of the top of the poster you are hanging, as well as the height. Use a pencil and a ruler or measuring tape to mark the position of each corner on the wall. Use a level to double-check that each edge is even and straight.

    • 5). Place a dime-sized wad of putty on each of the four corners marked on the wall. Lay the poster over the putty and the wall and press down on the corners to adhere the putty to the poster. The poster will be able to be removed by gently pulling the poster off the putty, and then the putty off the wall, without damage to the poster or the wall.
